The 136th birthday of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, will be celebrated throughout the country with national spirit and enthusiasm today.

The day will dawn with special prayers in mosques for the progress and prosperity of the country. A number of programmes have been chalked out to highlight the guiding principles of unity faith and discipline. Today is a public holiday and the national flag will be hoisted at all public and private buildings. A Quran khawani will also be held at Quaid’s mausoleum in Karachi.

Various cultural and educational institutions have chalked out different programmes to throw light on the life and political achievements of the great leader.

Television channels would also present special programmes and newspapers would bring out special editions to pay tribute to Jinnah.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born on December 25, 1876 in Karachi. He got his early education in Karachi and at the age of 16 he went to England for further studies.

In 1896, Jinnah qualified for the bar and in 1897 he was called to the bar. It was due to his struggle that despite opposition from the Congress and British government, Muslims of sub continent managed to get their own homeland on August 14, 1947.

The Quaid was also the first governor general of Pakistan. His motto was Unity, Faith and Discipline. Jinnah died on September 11, 1948, just over a year after Pakistan gained independence from the British rule.
