‘Na Maloom Afraad’ and ‘Dukhtar’ to be Screened at South Asian International Film Festival

Pakistan’s film industry kicks off finally, thanks to some very talented Pakistani film makers and actors to bring about the revolution. And that’s not it, now top earning, blockbusters ‘Na Maloom Afrrad’, a comedy thriller of Nabeel Qureshi and Afia Nathaniel’s film ‘Dukhtar’ have made it to South Asian International Film Festival.

What is South Asian International Film Festival? A festival held in New York, acts as a platform to take Asian/Indian film makers to United States for their works to be recognized. SAIFF was formed to give representation to Asian/Indian movies in US too, which at time of this festival’s birth was very little. SAIFF showcases films from all over South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bagladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka etc.)

This festival will also manifest Kanu Behl’s ‘Titli’ and Sudhish Kamath’s ‘X’ among others and many short filmsmostly from India, the largest film making industry in world.

‘Dukhtar’ is a story in the mountains of Pakistan, a mother and her ten-year-old daughter flee their home on the eve of the girl’s marriage to a tribal leader. A deadly hunt for them begins. After being presented at the Toronto International Film Festival and being Pakistan’s Oscar nomination in the Foreign Language Film category, the movie starring Samiya Mumtaz and Mohib Mirza will now be screened at yet another international platform, SAIFF.

‘Na Maloom Afraad’ was always making it to SAIFF, after experiencing immense success in Pakistan and was released on EID resulting ‘house full’ notice on every renowned cinema across the country. The nomination doesn’t surprise much as it was always coming.

The 11th Annual South Asian International Film Festival will take place from November 17-23, 2014.
