Growing up in the 90s there was a ray of hope. We seemed to be on the right track. Pakistan had won the world cup. Benazir had been elected into power which ushered in an explosion of popular arts culture. I am a 90s child. I reminisced about those times when my mother used to fetch me from school and we’d listen to Sequencers’ Bhool Na on our way home. The song opens a window into my childhood and so I decided to cover the song as a tribute to my favorite Pakistani band and the platinum era of the 90s. Hope everyone likes our version of ‘Bhool Na’

Exclusive Interview

PMR: First of all, tell us how you started your music career?
Maha: My first exposure to singing came as an offer from an underground band to perform with them at a live gig. That was the starting point. Once I was on stage, I knew singing was my calling.

PMR: Nazar was produced/directed by Farhad Humayun, then second single with Shahi Hassan. How was the experience working with them?
Maha: It was fabulous working with both Shahi and Farhad and I learned a tremendous deal from both.
PMR: Tell us about your single Bhool Na and What are your expectations from it?
Maha: Bhool Na is a cover of a popular song from the 90s by the band sequencers whose band members were kind enough to grant me the permission to cover it. I was initially reluctant, since I thought I could probably not do justice to the song, but encouraged by friends, I decided to give it a shot. My motivation in covering the song was to revive the spirit of the 90s. You know, that kind of nonchalance, a spirit of rebellion, the thrill you get when you try something different, something new.

PMR: Tell us about your next project and when we can expect your album in market?
Maha: My focus is on writing /recording new original songs and completing an album. While I cannot give a definitive date for the launch of the album, we’re looking at a time horizon of 6-7 months hopefully. There are plenty of other projects in the pipeline too that I’m very excited about.

PMR: How do you see the internet market for upcoming/underground bands in terms of marketing tool and what do u expect?
Maha: It’s quite fascinating how quickly technology can transform business models. Until recently, there was very little hope for underground bands to be discovered, but internet has created a more leveled playing field – which is always a great thing in any competitive industry.

PMR: You are into Modelling as well ?? tell us more about it
Maha: while I haven’t modeled as such, but should the opportunity arise, I would consider it.

PMR:what do u think about PMR and how you will rate it ?? help us to improve more
Maha: Pak Media Revolution is an excellent platform the promotion of local artistes. A lot of diaspora Pakistanis discover Pakistani Music on this platform. I would rate is very highly.
