Pakistani film industry is back in action. Imagine another Oscar bagged by Pakistan?

Pakistani Academy Selection Committee has selected Jami’s Moor to submit for Foreign Language Film Award category at the 88th Academy Awards coming next year.

This bombshell of a film’s plot revolves around the life of a poor train station employee, and his son, after the death of his wife. The story tells the sad tale of declining condition of Balochistan.

Moor was the most-voted-for movie in Pakistani Academy Selection Committee, which was headed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Other members of the committee were Coke Studio founder Rohail Hyatt, designer Maheen Khan, actor Aamina Sheikh, filmmaker/director Satish Anand, actor Faran Tahir, actor Alyy Khan, director Afia Nathaniel, film producer Mazhar Zaidi and writer Daniyal Mueenuddin.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, about Moor, said: “Moor pushes the boundaries of cinema in Pakistan. A visual treat, the film reminds us of the history of a land we too often ignore.”

About the selection, Jami says, “Journey itself becomes our destination and with this submission to Oscars our destination is beyond hope now as we now know that our stepping stone was in the right direction.”

The final list of nominees for Oscar 2016 will be released on January 14, 2016 by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The award ceremony will take place on 28th February 2016.
