Céline Dion looked devastated as she laid her husband, René Angélil, to rest on Friday afternoon in Montreal. The 47-year-old singer donned a black veil, covering her heartbroken expression, as she and her sons, 15-year-old René Charles and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy, entered Notre-Dame Basilica to say their final goodbyes.

During the funeral, which was live-streamed, René-Charles stood up and said a few words about his father.

“Fifteen years is not a long time for a son to get to know his father. You had a busy life, but we were communicating through golf, hockey, poker and smoked meat,” he said, letting out a chuckle. “You left me now with enough good memories of you to share with my younger brothers. As they grow older, without you being around, I’ll make sure to pass on what I’ve learned from you. You’re a tough act to follow, but with you’re help, everything is going to be fine. Dad, I promise you here that we’re all going to live up to your standards.”

René’s older son Patrick (from a previous marriage) spoke to the mourners in French.

At the end of the service, an emotional Dion walked up and bent over to kiss her husband’s casket outside the church in which they wed 22 years earlier.

Angélil died at his home in Las Vegas just before his 74th birthday on Jan. 14 after a long battle with throat cancer.

Two days later, Dion’s brother Daniel, 59, passed away, also losing his battle to cancer. Her rep told us that she’s staying in Montreal to attend a service for her brother on Saturday.
